Halloween Week

Halloween is not my favorite holiday, not even a close second, but we still had a lot of fun with the kids this week. I enjoy doing fall activities like carving pumpkins and treats for the kids' classes at school, I guess it's just the costume stuff that drives me crazy. Anyway, here's what we've done this week:

Monday

The kids LOVE carving pumpkins. The excitment starts way back in the spring when we plant the garden and watch our seeds turn into vines, and later pumpkins. Each child chooses their "baby pumpkin" and watches with pride as it grows bigger and bigger. After we've carved them they get so excited as Brad takes the pumpkins out and lights the candles. Then they rush out and giggle and smile like its Christmas and are seeing what Santa brought them. So fun.

Wednesday

Tanner and his preschool teacher, Teacher Megan.
Funny story: Tanner has never been one to enjoy dressing up, not even for Halloween, so when they had a Halloween Party at school he was NOT happy. I got him all dressed up, all the while he's whining and telling me he doesn't like it. I compromised.....he dresses up for the party at school and lets me get a picture of him with his class, and I'd let him take his costume off after. Once we arrived at school, I got a picture of him with his teacher and then he immediately took his costume off. Every last piece of it! Oh well. What a goof!

Friday

A couple weeks ago Meagan came home from school with a flyer advertising a sewing class where they would make a trick-or-treat bag. I thought we could do it at home and Lindsay could do it with us....they had fun.

Didn't they turn out so cute!

Saturday

My crew...with the addition of cousin Kaylee (not loving the photo op).
Our Halloween Day tradition is homemade breadsticks with a pizza dip/sauce and a yummy Halloween drink..served with scoops of orange sherbet. Delish! My sister Aimee and her hubby Brennen and their cute little babe Kaylee enjoyed our dinner with us. Then we headed of to the Business Trick-or-Treat. Our town does a fun thing....all the businesses have a trick-or-treat outing for the kids at 4pm. It's really fun, still light outside, and usually fairly warm. Today was no exception. Thanks for coming up Fuller Fam!

The entire Matthews Fam...wish I'd taken a photo of the Fuller Fam too. :(

The most handsome pirate ever....who still was not excited about dressing up.

Linds...dead ghost. Not sure how much more dead you can get if you're a ghost, but hey, that's what she wanted. It may take awhile to comb out the rats' nest later on tonight.

Not the greatest timing ever, but anyway.....introducing, Hermione Granger!

I just couldn't resist the cute tooshie! Ellie.....the cutest little fairy!

Ellie ran out of steam during the trick-or-treating so I opted out and took her back. Once we got home she was mesmorized by the pumpkins. She got the biggest smile on her face and just sat down right next to them, like they were her best friends. She sat there for about 5 minutes just smiling and jabbering at them.
When Brad and the kids came home we ate candy (alot of candy) and played a game of "Sorry" together.....Meag won! What a great day....and night!

Hope you had a Happy Halloween too!

  1. The pumpkins all turned out great! I love how excited they get lighting them. What a fun holiday for the kids. How can Tanner not be excited about dressing as a pirate?! What a goof indeedy, but he did look hansome. The bags were perfect and super cute. I LOVED the group shot of everyone dressed up. Meagan had me laughing, all in character. What a perfect Hermione. Way to go on the make-up department. Now I know what to do if my kid wants to be a dead ghost one year. Seriously I was impressed with the hair. I bet Lindsay loved it. Ellie and Kaylee were some pretty cute fairies! You ended on such a sweet note with that picture of Ellie sitting next to her "best friends". Those one year olds really are the greatest. :) Love you Matthews!

  2. What a fun week! The bags really turned out so cute and once again we (The Fuller fam) had a blast trick-or-treating Morgan style. (Despite the grump guster Kaylee at the beginnig). The pumpkins were awesome and I'm glad Mr. Bear helped Tanner realize how fun dressing up like a pirate can be.

  4. I thought the same thing about your Hermione and my Harry - but, you beat me to the commenting ;) If she's anything like Joey, they'll both be up for dressing up again! Even if it is just for a picture!
What cuties you have! Even as a dead ghost, Lindsay is still lovely! Too fun!
And, I must address the "U" situation. Don't tell, but I still bleed blue ;) And, would still marry Ty, should the situation present itself ;) But, until then, I must put my feelings on the back burner and PRETEND to cheer red. You see, the "Y" would not accept the hopeful law student I married, and thus, the very name of that school is no longer allowed utterance in our humble household. HOWEVER. . . my heart still skips a beat everytime I travel to Provo and see that Y High On the Mountain Top. Sigh. ;)
P.S. thanks again for all the blue memories I hold so dear!!
